  The Professional Series 

  -What is the Professional Series?

  The Professional Series will be events held throughout the year, intended to help Nebraska professionals run their businesses more efficiently and effectively. Gain special access to learn new skills and work with other professionals at a lower cost than regular pricing. 

  -Who is Susan Meyerle? 

  Dr. Susan Meyerle, LIPC, CEAP, CFLE, DOT Qualified SAP, is a wonderful practitioner in our Lincoln community, who runs a business called Legacy Archive Solutions Team. She specializes in helping professionals create their professional wills, and will even help manage them. 

  -Will I leave with a fully ready professional will? 

  YES! 

  -Why do I need a professional will? 

  Professional wills are the legal documents you leave behind in case something happens to you. As a licensed therapist, you need a professional will to ensure client continuity, protect patient confidentiality, and legally empower a colleague to manage your practice if you die or become suddenly incapacitated. Without this document, it can be impossible for your clients and colleagues to legally navigate your absence. 

  -How much does it normally cost for this workshop? 

  This workshop with Susan is normally $350. There will also be a discount available at the workshop for will management services if you choose to sign up. 

  -Will there be CE's available for this event? 

  No, no CE's will be given for this event. 

  -Will space be limited for this event? 

  Yes, we only have room for 20 registrants. 

  -What do I need to bring? 

  Please bring your computer, charger, notebook, and pen. 

  -Where & When? 

  We will be meeting on August 21st, 2026, at the Fred Brown Center on the Lincoln Doane Campus, located at 303 N 52nd Street, Lincoln, NE 68504. We will be in room 302. 

  -Will there be food? 

  Light refreshments and snacks will be available. 

  -Will this be recorded? 

  No, you will need to attend, live and in-person, on the day of the event. There is no Zoom access available either.

  Join Jessica Hotchkiss for our August LIVE Free CE! 

  This presentation will explore the intersection of grief and medical trauma in both children and adults, offering practical, evidence-based strategies for counselors. Attendees will gain insight into how medical experiences can compound grief across the lifespan and how to provide effective, trauma-informed support. Emphasis will be placed on techniques, ethics, resilience-building, and age-appropriate interventions.

  Learning objectives:

  1. Identify the unique ways medical trauma can impact the grieving process in both children and adults.

  2. Differentiate age-specific responses of grief and trauma to tailor counseling approaches effectively.

  3. Explore trauma-informed strategies to support clients coping with grief and medical experiences.

  This event is to be presented LIVE via Zoom on August 28th, 2026, from 12-1pm (Central Time). You must attend at this time to receive the CE credit, and you must attend the entirety of the session to obtain your CE certificate. This CE will NOT be recorded for playback later.

Information, including the Zoom link, will be sent via your registration email. One CE credit hour will be available for this presentation. CE certificates will be sent out at the conclusion of the presentation after participants pass a quiz (8/10).

  Romancing AI: Emerging Challenges for Clients and Clinicians

  With the increasing use of AI chatbots in our daily lives, a new area for clinicians to be aware of is clients turning to these chatbots for companionship. This ranges from using them as a tool for advice to relating to them as an intimate partner. The use of these chatbots may be more common than previously thought, especially amongst teens, with early surveys showing that roughly three in four have used an AI chatbot as a companion in some form. New apps and websites launch daily, and this usage often goes unmoderated and unseen by those around the user. Clinicians are working to catch up, seeking to understand both the impact this usage has on clients and the possible role of chatbots in supporting social learning and anxiety reduction.
  
  Current research is still developing, but a growing body of work points to promising therapeutic directions clinicians can draw from (Koegel et al., 2025), alongside several concerns about how these bonds shape expectations of other relationships and carry real-life social ramifications (Ho et al., 2025) for both teens and adults. Understanding the impacts, concerns, and usage are becoming increasingly important as these LLM-based chatbots move into the mainstream.
  
  Learning Objectives:
  1.Describe the prevalence and client interest behind relationships with AI companions.
  2.Identify three clinical and social impacts associated with the use of AI companions.
  3. Evaluate possible therapeutic uses of AI companions, along with safety measures for clinical use.

  This is a pre-recorded presentation, which you will receive access to once you have registered. Information will be sent via your registration email, including the video link, quiz link, and handouts. Please complete the quiz included in your registration email by no later than 5pm on August 31st, 2026 to receive your CE certificate. CE certificates will be sent automatically when you complete and pass the quiz (8/10 correct). You may take the quiz as many times is necessary to pass.

  ACA Midwest Region – 2026 Leadership Development Academy
  Navigating Change: Advocacy Leadership in a Complex World

  Join us for an inspiring and transformative experience at the 2026 Leadership Development Academy, where mental health professionals from across the Midwest will come together to grow, connect, and lead with purpose.

  Hosted by the Nebraska Counseling Association, this dynamic conference will take place November 6–8, 2026, at the Omaha Marriott Downtown in Omaha, Nebraska. Designed for counselors, educators, and mental health leaders at all stages of their careers, this year’s theme—Navigating Change: Advocacy Leadership in a Complex World—focuses on equipping professionals with the tools, insight, and confidence needed to lead effectively in an ever-evolving landscape.

  Attendees can expect engaging sessions, meaningful networking opportunities, and forward-thinking discussions centered on advocacy, leadership development, and the future of the counseling profession. Whether you're looking to strengthen your leadership voice, stay ahead of emerging challenges, or connect with passionate peers, this academy offers an energizing space to do just that.

  We plan to offer approximately 24 CEU's for this conference. Final schedules and speaker information will be published soon.

  This conference, barring unforeseen technical issues, will be recorded and available to registrants for playback and to obtain CE's from November 16th until February 15th, 2027.

  Live attendance the day of will be the only registration option. We will not be offering live zoom registrations for this conference.

  CEU certificates will be provided by the NCA following your successful completion of a CE quiz (8/10 correct). If you have not received your live CEU by November 9th at 12pm, and it is not in your spam folder, please email us at nca@necounseling.org. Registrants are responsible for maintaining their record of their CE's.

  Recordings of the the conference will be available beginning November 15th, 2026, and will close February 15th, 2027 at 5pm. All CE quizzes are due at that time.
